Virtual Private Networking (VPN) with XP Pro

Note: If you have the Windows XP Home version will be unable to use the Virtual Private Network (VPN) function.
Download a Preconfigured VPN
Step 1: For the following link, Right click and select Save Link As then save the vpn.pbk file to your desktop.

Step 2: Locate and click on your newly created JC VPN icon.
Step 3: Select what VPN you want to dial into.
- JC Wireless VPN is used for students on campus.
- JC External VPN is used for students off campus.
Step 4: Before connecting, fill in your Juniata username, password, and set the domain to JUNIATA.
Step 5: Click Connect and you see the VPN dial in.
Manually Configured a VPN
Step 1: Access your Control Panel under the Start icon.
Step 2: Locate and click on the Network Connections icon.
- If you cannot locate the icon, try checking if you are viewing in classic mode. This option is located on the left frame of Control Panel.
Step 3: Click Create a new connection located on the left frame of the Network Connections window.
Step 4: Click Next on the wizard screen, until prompted by 3 choices. Select Connect to the network at my workplace and click Next.
Step 5: Select Virtual Private Network connection connection and click Next.
Step 6: Choose Do not dial the initial connection then Next because we do not want the connection to always connect when you start up.
Step 7: Name your connect JC VPN and click Next.
- If you creating an External connection label it JC External VPN.
Step 8: Type in your desired IP address and click Next.
- 10.99.1.5 for on campus use.
- 192.112.102.12 for off campus use.
- We will be switching to Firepass for off-campus VPN. Go setup firepass visit Firepass for Windows XP and Vista
Step 9: Check the Add a shortcut to my desktop then click Finish.
Step 10: Locate and click on the newly created VPN icon on your desktop.
- This screen will prompt you.
Step 11: Click Properties button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 12: Select the Options tab at the top, check the Include Windows logon domain, and then click Ok.
Step 13: Before connecting, fill in your Juniata username, password, and set the domain to JUNIATA.
Step 14: Click Connect and you see the VPN dial in.
