Windows Service Packs

From CTSKnowledgeBase

Campus Technology Services provides downloads for the latest operating system services packs to students from this download site. Students are encouraged to download the service packs before Microsoft releases them to avoid slow download times once the service packs are officially released.

When Microsoft releases these services packs, CATPro will give students 24 hours to download the service pack. If the installation has not been completed before those 24 hours, CATPro will quarantine your computer from the rest of the network.

3) Under the "General" tab, look for the operating system name. It may read "x64" or "64-bit." Also, look under the "Computer" section of the screen. You may see the same phrases. If you do not, you most likely do not have a 64-bit operating system.

Check Windows Version in VISTA

1) Right Click on "Computer" and select "Properties". This will bring up the "System Information" window.

2) In this window, you will see a "System" section. Defined under this section, you will see "System type". This value will either read "32-bit Operating System" or "64-bit Operating System". If you have a 64-bit version, you will download the x64 version of the Service Pack. If you have the 32-bit version, you will download the x96 version of the Service Pack.

Be sure to save the file to a location you will remember (such as the desktop of your computer). You MUST be on campus or connected via the Juniata College VPN to access this site.

If you are a Windows Vista user, you may need to right click on the installation program and select 'Run as Administrator' for the installation to complete successfully.

3) Follow the step-by-step instructions provided during the installation process. You should not have to select any other options besides default options during a Microsoft Windows Service Pack update.

4) Once the installation has completed, RESTART YOUR COMPUTER! This will allow the computer to finalize the changes made to your operating system so that it will be ready for you to use.
