DATE: Friday, August 29nd
SERVICES IMPACTED: Juniata's Internet Connection - Access to websites, Firepass, and inbound/outbound email delivery.
DETAILS: Campus Network and Security (CNS) has completed the migration to our new Internet Service Provider (ISP), Three Rivers Optical Exchange (3ROX). Outbound connections to the Internet as well as inbound connections to Juniata have been tested. This migration includes an increase in connectivity speed to Internet based reso... EXPANDurces (non-Juniata). Please note that we are still passing all Internet based traffic through a bandwidth management appliance to prioritize traffic based on academic needs. This appliance will be replaced in phase 2 of this project, later this semester, and traffic prioritization will be re-evaluated based on our new connection. If you are unable to access an Internet based resource or send/receive email to an non-Juniata.edu account, which worked prior to the upgrade, please submit a ticket at http://jcticket.juniata.edu.
MORE INFORMATION: For more information regarding the new connection, please visit http://services.juniata.edu/cts/resources/InternetMigration2014.pdf.
WHO IS 3ROX? The Three Rivers Optical Exchange is a regional network aggregation point providing high speed commodity and research network access to sites in Western and Central Pennsylvania and West Virginia. 3ROX is based at Carnegie Mellon University and is operated and managed by the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center. While the primary focus of 3ROX is to provide cost effective, high capacity, state-of-the-art network connectivity to the university community, this infrastructure also provides well defined network services to both community (K12, government) and commercial entities in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
If you have concerns or questions about this Advisory, please contact Anne Wood at email@example.com.
There was a campus wide phishing scam that reached a number of juniata.edu email accounts recently. Please see the copy of the email that we received at the end of this Advisory.
These types of scams are designed to steal your account information and gain access to our college network. If you have already clicked on the link or have submitted your username and password, please follow the instructions located at http://www.juniata.edu/wiki/?q=node/86 to change your password immediately.
Signs that your computer or account has been compromised include a large number of undeliverable messages arriving in your inbox and a lot of messages that you DID NOT send showing up in your Sent Items folder as well as unexpected computer behavior.
Please note that Campus Technology Services (CTS, CNS, TSC, and AIS) will NOT ask you to reset your network access, send your username and password, or submit your username and password to a web form in an email without proper and thorough communication to campus. We will always suggest that you update your password through the normal channels, using your work computer, webmail, or the account self-service portal.
If you need assistance after looking at the instructions provided ABOVE, the Help Desk can be reached by calling x3619 on campus or by calling 641-3619 from an off campus number. For more information and tips on computer security and phishing scams, please visit our resource page at http://www.juniata.edu/services/cts/security/tips.html.
