Students are encouraged to include one or more of the following non-classroom experiences in their program.

  1. Study Abroad
Juniata offers many study abroad programs of particular interest to students with Biology POEs. Programs for a Junior year abroad that are particularly suitable for students in the science are with the Universite Catholique de Lille in France, the Universitaet Marburg in Germany, the Universidad de San Francisco, Quito Ecuador and Universidad de lasAmericas, Pueblo, Mexico. However, these programs require an intermediate level of proficiency in the host countries language, because courses are taught in the language of the country. Therefore, students wishing to participate in these programs will have to plan carefully in order to complete the necessary language training before and the beginning of the junior year. You are urged to consult with the Director of International Programs (814.641.3180) and the appropriate members of the Foreign Language Department (814.641.3497)
  2. Research
Independent guided research opportunities are available with Juniata faculty and faculty members at leading research universities around the country. Juniata faculty members with grant supported active research provide research opportunities that are tailored for undergraduate participation. Research opportunities exist during the academic year through the Biology Research course (BI 489) and students also have the opportunity to participate in summer research internships at Juniata. Such independent study and close interaction with professors provides the opportunity for students to enter into a mentoring relationship with one or more faculty members (see individual faculty web pages)
  3. 3. Internships
Established internship programs offer real world experiences outside of the traditional classroom. These internships are available to student in all programs, and include industrial, professional, and academic opportunities. Internships may be selected from existing internships developed by the department and the college, or they may be created by students themselves (contact the Director of Career Services at 814.641.3351).
