PERFORMING ARTS MANAGEMENT POE

“. . . , every organization, arts or no, is guided by intrinsic core values. . . “

These words from Ben Cameron, Director of Theatre Communications Group, the national organization for American theatre, serve as a touchstone for the Performing Arts Management POE.  How do we identify and powerfully translate the core values of a theatre’s work to the management structures, the fundraising, the marketing, and, most importantly, the audience?

The Performing Arts Management POE reflects a contemporary trend toward coupling professional preparation with liberal arts study in undergraduate colleges.  The students in this POE acquire practical experience in Performing Arts Management through the real-world management and marketing of The Gravity Project (a non-profit professional theatre company in residence at Juniata), Juniata Theatre productions, and the college Guest Artist Series events.  Upon graduation, students will be prepared to enter the field of Performing Arts Management with: hands-on experience in managing, marketing, and structuring a non-profit professional theatre company; strong skills in digital media manipulation for marketing; a solid foundation and experience in stage management; a strong portfolio of business skills including accounting, marketing, management structures, and fundraising; a strong philosophy for the management of performing arts organizations.
