Maple Sugaring at RFS

The 2009 sugaring season is here! The buckets are filling with sugar water, and we've made our first batches of syrup. Below is a current schedule of planned events - watch for more dates as we watch the weather. Also check here for updated information as the weather changes, or contact us at rfs@juniata.edu or 814-641-3572. All sugaring events occur at our Grove Farm facilities (directions).

2/28 - Tapping! Everyone is invited to join in the fun of tapping the sugar maples. If you are new to maple sugaring, it is not a problem. Education instructions and a refresher on how to tap the sugar maples will be given. If you are interested please contact rfs@juniata.edu for further information.
3/7 We'll be collecting water, tapping more trees, and hopefully making syrup. Activities will start around 10 AM and run until about 4 PM. Contact rfs@juniata.edu for details or to RSVP for lunch.

3/13-3/15 Alumni and Friends Sugaring Weekend. Come for for the weekend or stop out Saturday! We'll be making syrup (if the weather cooperates!), eating waffles and ice cream with fresh syrup and having a good time! Please RSVP for meals ($5 breakfast and lunch, $10 dinner) or housing - otherwise just drop by!

3/21 MapleFest. We'll be making syrup again, and eating it on all kinds of treats like fresh waffles. Join us for a fun day of sugaring!
